What is VRV?

VRV stands for Variable Refrigerant Volume, also known in the wider industry as variable refrigerant flow (VRF). A VRV/VRF system is still the only commercial system that continuously adjusts the refrigerant volume within the system to match exactly the heating or cooling requirement in each area, for optimum comfort and maximum energy efficiency.

Daikin VRV provides an innovative solution for climate management that optimises comfort and control, while reducing environmental impact and delivering significant energy savings.  VRV has the answer to some of the key challenges for the indoor climate such as how can:

A whole building solution

Daikin VRV system

Utilising highly efficient heat recovery, VRV offers an integrated approach to heating, cooling, ventilation and hot water within medium to large buildings. This approach means that waste heat from indoor units in cooling mode can be re-used to produce hot water or provide heat to other rooms, offering major increases in energy efficiency and reductions in carbon emissions.

Complete control for maximum comfort and energy efficiency

VRV offers complete control to create the perfect temperature, fresh air flow and humidity balance.  Its modular design and advanced selection software means that you can select exactly the right mix of units and options, to match your exact building requirements. A zone by zone control approach means that you can adjust individual comfort settings in each room and practice smart energy management by controlling where heating and cooling is switched on.  VRV offers user-friendly control options for maximum efficiency and versatility, or you can integrate climate control within an entire building management system.

The elements of a VRV system

Daikin VRV

  • Outdoor units
  • Indoor units
  • Hot water & solar collectors
  • Biddle air curtains
  • Ventilation
  • Control systems

Outdoor units - integrated heat pump solutions

Daikin renewable energy heat pumps offer a totally integrated approach to climate control:

VRV delivers up to 15% energy savings, compared with water based chiller or boiler systems.

Indoor units

Daikin offers a wide range of indoor units, stylishly designed to suit rooms of any size and shape, all with extremely quiet operation:

Hot water

A Daikin VRV system can be combined with renewable energy solution to produce hot water:

Producing hot water with a VRV heat pump delivers up to 17% energy savings compared with a gas boiler.

Air curtains for entrances

Daikin VRV’s integrated heat recovery capability provides low cost heating for air curtains at entrances, ideal for buildings where doors often remain open:

Air curtains using recovered heat from the VRV system delivers up to 72% energy savings compared with an electric air curtain.

Ventilation

Ventilation can be integrated within a VRV system to create fresh air provision for a high quality indoor environment:

Ventilation using recovered heat from the VRV system delivers up to 40% energy savings, by reducing cooling and heating requirements.

User friendly controls

Full control of the VRV system ensures maximum efficiency through zone by zone control:

VRV innovation

Daikin invented the variable refrigerant volume concept some 30 years ago and we are still the leading advocates of this innovative approach to integrated climate control, which can offer huge energy savings.

Continuous innovation through successive generations of VRV products means that VRV now offers a range of heat recovery, heat pump, cooling or heating only options, geothermal versions, replacement solutions for systems still operating on R-22 refrigerant and a VRV system running on CO2 refrigerant. Daikin has the widest range of VRV solutions available to suit your exact needs.

Geothermal VRV

Highly efficient, geothermal water-cooled applications use ground water as a renewable energy source, offering superior energy efficiency.

Heat Recovery VRV

VRV heat recovery optimises individual comfort within different areas of a building, while maximising energy efficiency by preventing energy waste.
